29/07/2020 - marking and drilling access plates - 2h

I purchased the modification kit for the front top skin which allows you to put access plates in the compartiment just behind the firewall plate.

I believe it's easiers than crawling underneath the instrument panel in case you need to verify some connection.

The kit consists of 2 reinforcement rings, 2 access plates and some hardware (mostly nutplate, rivets and screws)

I first started by finding the location. The plans that come with this kit are quite clear but it takes a while before you find the right tabs on the reinforcement ring that should be used for the RV7.

Once you have them, you put two cleco's in them and that defines the position you need to matchdrill. In the picture below, you can see these tabs on the left bottom side (the two cleco's that are on the firewall attach line)

I drilled all #40 holes that attach the reinforcement ring to the top skin.

Then you drill #19 for the 8R8 screws that attach the cover plate.

With the plates removed and all drilled, this is what the top skin looks like.

Finally I matchdrilled the coverplates using the #19 holes as template. They are predrilled so it's easy to use a reamer here.

Mark the parts well for left, right, front and rear so that you keep the same match up later.
