Leading Edge Cradle - 09/12/2011 - 2h

As I'm starting edge prepping on the leading edge ribs, I realised I am behind on the construction of my jigs.

Therefor, I took 2 hours to make a nice leading edge jig.

As per the plans, I used one of the ribs with some millimeters extra to allow for padding some soft material

Divided my hardboard in 2 using the measurements on the plans and layed the rib parallel with the rear part aligned with -what will become- the top side of the jig.

Then used a jig saw to cut out the forms.

Then used some left over bars from the shipment boxes of the fuselage kit to attach to both sides of the jig plates. The plans call for 2x4" s but this is also more then sufficient. I used some steel angles to connect them by screw.

Finally I cut up some old carpet and stapled it to the form that will hold the leading edge skin. I made sure to give it a couple lf extra taps to make sure the staple is completely in the carpet so that it can not form scratches on the skin.

Eh voila... all finished and ready for some leading edge work.
