Aanvraag vergunning

Today, I sent of my request for a 'aanvraag voor een vergunning voor een bijzondere bestemming'.

For Belgian builders, this will allow to import the RV-7 from the United States without having to pay import taxes.

An interesting link with more info on this procedure can be found here.

I forwarded my request to the 'Douane Procedures, Directie Gent, Sint Lievenslaan 27, 9000 Gent.

Just some info I received on the phone:

  1. describe in an accompanying letter what type of aircraft you build, the empty weight and the duration
  2. you also need to tell them where the plane will be stationed once it is completed so they can do some control.
  3. the article group code when buying for planes is : 8802 20 0010.
  4. the 'vrijstelling' of import taxes is applyable to all goods related to the airplane: including kit, propellor, engine.
  5. it does however not apply to the tools. unless you can proof they can only be used for the construction of the airplane.
  6. I got adviced to have the import customs procedures performed by a so called 'declarant'. I will have to give them my 'vergunning' nr and they will handle the rest of the procedure. Belgium burocracy...
