31/07/2024 - Outer wing work for nav and landing lights - 5h30

My friend Gordon from Wollongong sent me a couple of tips and images of how he organised the wiring in the wing tips of his RV7.
I liked the idea and more or less copied his work.

First of all, I made a grounding angle with 2 tabs that will connect with a pulled rivet on the outer wing rib. This will not serve as local grounding, but will be used for lightning protection.

The real GND is routed back on the shielding to the firewall GND block to minimize radio interference. The case grounding that serves as lightning protection is grounded on this tab and is local.
The aluminum used is maybe a bit too thick for the application and the test slip of some fast on connectors leaves a couple of scratches. However, it also means the connection will be well and thight.

Next I made 2 support brackets from aluminum angle to support the conduit line at the outer rib. 2  AN5158R8 screws (MS35206-245) with washer and nuts will hold the angle to the rib and one AN3 hole in the other flange will be the base for an adel clamp holding the conduit.

Drilled the holes in the outer wing rib.

Attached the hardware and clamped the conduit. Looks good.

Did the same on the other wing.
