As I don't have a rivetter available all the time, I decided to take on some other small jobs.
One of the remaining tasks is to make a reinforcement bracket to support the pitot mast.
The only attachment foreseen is three rivets in the flange of the main spar and this is not sufficient for stability. It could lead to cracking due to vibration and you don't want that in your wing skins.
I already added the 6 rivets on the side and in the outer skins earlier. Now I started making a reinforcement angle bracket that is rivetted to the wing rib and which supports the bottom plate of the pitot mast.Cllamped it in place and drilled the holes using the holes in the mast as a drill guide.
Two holes drilled
And here is the result, the three holes drilled and bottom skin installed.
Next, I found a new victim to come and help me out with rivetting the skin. Shot a couple of rivets today. Reaching out to the back is really painfull for your neck and I could not do long sessions at this at once.
It was a long time ago I could motivate one of the kids to help me out on the plane. This time Matthias , meanwhile 16 (boy time flies), helped me out shooting the gun.
He is doing a great job at it. An aircraft mechanic in the making. Too bad he doesn't know it yet himself :)
