06/07/19 - Cutting Vertical stabilo and first fit - 4h
Finalised drilling the last two inboard bolts through the front spar of the horizontal stabilizer. All drilled and installed bolts now visible in the picture below.
Cleaned up the F-781 vertical stab attach plate.
This is the part that connects the front spar of the vertical stabilo to the front spar of the horizontal stabilo.
As you can see, there is a bit of a joggle in the plate. The reason for this is the displacement of the vertical stabilo by 1/4th of an inch to the left.
I drew a centerline on the F-781 for alignment with the fuselage centerline.
The plans call for trimming 5/8" off of the VS-702 front spar.
TIP:
Now If I would be you, and you would be wise... I would cut only 3/8" to start with.
the 5/8" is too generous. You will need to play with the height of the front spar on the F-781 in order to align the elevator up and down and straigten the hinges in the back.
I had to cut this to 5/8 and ended up lowering the rear spar all the way down to the WD-409 in order to get sufficient edge distance on F-781 and VS-702 and horiz stab front spar and bottom of the F-781.
Do yourself a favor and don't cut 5/8 now. You can always trim it down if needed.
When done, I gave it a first try. Just to see how cool it looks.
